30+ years old male came to THMC Medical Group for a routine medical check.
His past health was good. He is not
a smoker or drinker. His family history is also good. He joined THMC’s Comprehe
nsive Health Check Plan, which included blood tests and abdomen ultrasound. The ultrasound showed a 3cm liver mass, possibly a liver hemangioma. Liver he
mangioma is common (up to 20% in normal population) and is benign. Normally there is no need for treatment or further investigation for liver hemangioma. However, due to the size of his hemangioma, THMC doctor suggested him to consider MRI scan with contrast medium.
MRI scan showed that the liver hemangioma was actually a liver cancer. THMC referred him to see a hepatobiliary professor, and the professor removed the liver mass with laparoscopic surgery.
Pathology report showed that it was a Stage 1 Liver Cancer. The client was not a Hepatitis B/C carrier, nor was he a heavy drinker. There was no family history of liver cancer. It was very fortunate that the liver cancer was found out early. He did not need chemotherapy or radiotherapy to follow. He was discharged from the hospital 1 week after surgery and was back to work after 2 weeks.
